tel aviv writer's salon
When and Where
The salon is held 4x each year at Urban Place in Tel Aviv. Street parking is scant, but you can park in the building.
To receive updates about upcoming Salon sessions, please join up the Fabulists on Facebook or add your name to the mailing list on this website.
Fees & Attendance Limit
The cost of the Salon is 100 NIS per person. The sooner you RSVP, the sooner you are guaranteed a place. The limit for attendance is 12 writers.
What to Expect
Each salon begins with a check-in for all attendees, to briefly introduce themselves and tell the group about what they are working on. Next, we will have an approximately 15 to 20-minute lesson led by Julie, about various writing topics (upcoming topics below and on the website), as well as discussion/Q&A about the lesson. Next, writers get comfortable and we write for 30 uninterrupted minutes, using the same writing prompt. After writing time, we share what we wrote.
What to Bring
Please bring a laptop computer for writing time. If you can write easily and well using an iPad type
tablet, that is fine too. The reason you need a computer is two-fold: 1) so you can write in the same way you generally do and 2) because our flash fiction is read aloud in the group, by me. Handwritten work is not possible to share. If you really must write by hand, please attend the Salon anyway, but know that your work may not be shared with the group.
What to Know
This is a guided writing group, meaning that the group is kept on focus. While you are welcome to discuss writing projects you are working on outside of the group, please do not bring outside writing to our sessions. We focus on writing IN group and best pieces written in group are eligible to be published on the Fabulist Magazine on Medium.com. The group is open to all writers of all ages, persuasions, mediums and stripes (screenwriters, novelists, non-fiction writers, memoir and essay writers, etc.). All sessions will be held in English only.
